About Marvin Sykes
A life shaped by service, discipline, hard choices, and purpose.
Marvin Sykes is a U.S. Army veteran, retired police corporal and narcotics detective, author, school safety professional, and youth motivational speaker.
The story behind the message
Marvin knows how one decision can redirect an entire life.
Before Marvin became a soldier, police officer, detective, author, and speaker, he faced the same kinds of pressure that can pull young people away from their goals. He learned firsthand that choices carry consequences—and that a better decision can open the door to a better future.
After serving in the United States Army, Marvin began a 25-year career with the Paterson Police Department. He spent 19 years in narcotics investigations, served as a police corporal, and worked directly with the realities created by poor decisions, harmful environments, and missed opportunities.
Today, he uses those experiences to help young people slow down, think clearly, understand consequences, and choose a path they can be proud of.
