About the book

One decision can change the direction of a life.

Born in Paterson, New Jersey to teenage parents, Marvin Sykes faced challenges early. Raised with determination and hope by his grandmother, he still felt the pull of the streets and the pressure to chase fast money.

At 19 years old, Marvin reached a moment of truth. He could continue toward prison, remain trapped by the streets, or choose something greater. He chose a different path.

That decision led him to the United States Army and later to a 25-year law-enforcement career, including 19 years in narcotics investigations. His story is not about pretending the past did not happen. It is about proving that the next decision still matters.
